Unokoti: The Rock-Carved Wonder in Tripura |
Tripura is full of wonderful tourist places with historical
references. An amazing piece from Hindu mythology narrates one incident that
involves Lord Shiva. He was once heading towards Kashi with gods and goddesses
and together they were one crore in number. He made a night halt at a location
and asked his followers to wake up before the sunrise. Next morning none from
his entourage woke up before sunrise except him. So he proceeded alone towards
Kashi cursing others to become rocks!
“Uno”, which means one short of and “Koti”,
that means crore gave this place the name UnoKoti, referring to one short of a crore
gods standing there as rock-carved images.
